The Friends of the Franklin Public Library will be hosting their annual Quilt-a-Thon fundraising event on September 16th & 17th during the Franklin Public Library’s regular business hours – Friday 12-5PM and Saturday 10-3PM.
During the Quilt-a-Thon, we will be working on two projects. Cheryl Butler, of The Flying Needles group that meets at the Franklin First United Methodist Church on Liberty Street, has pieced together a Matilda quilt top. The 58×64 inch quilt shows the children’s character Matilda sitting upon a stack of books wondering what to read next.
The other quilt top is a 36×48 inch wall hanging, a small version of Jinny Beyer’s creation, called Tessellating Tabbies. Both are currently on display at the Franklin Public Library.
During this interactive event, volunteer quilters will demonstrate the craft. Sponsors can contribute in $5 increments (or $20 for 5) for chances to win one of the completed quilts. The winning sponsors are decided by a drawing on October 10th. A light lunch will be provided to volunteer quilters on Saturday, September 17th.
There will also be a mini consignment shop with other items made by the quilters. 10% of the proceeds will go to the Franklin Public Library.
There is no experience necessary to come and participate. Walk-in volunteers are encouraged to join the fun. We enjoy meeting and teaching folks the art of quilting! Those interested in getting sponsors can pick up information at the library’s circulation desk or call (814) 432-5062.
