Pysanky: Ukrainian Batik Eggshells

The Oil City Library will be hosting “Pysanky: Ukrainian Batik Eggshells” on Wednesday, August 7 at 6PM presented by folk artist Carol Novosel, facilitated through Erie Arts & Culture. This program is intended for teens & adults and is open to 15 participants, so registration is required!

Carol Novosel lives in Sharon, and has created tens of thousands of pysanky, exquisitely decorated eggs using wax and dye. Her eggs have been given to then-President Clinton, and Alex Trebek featured one of her eggs on an episode of Jeopardy! She will show a variety of her creations and speak about how they are an integral part of spring traditions in her Ukrainian church community. Participants will be able to try a bit of pysanky art themselves.

Register today at the Oil City Library or call (814) 678-3072.

This project is made possible in part by federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Office of Commonwealth Libraries.
